Enrofloxacin, active ingredient of Vetoflok<b><sup>®</sup></b>, is an antimicrobial, pertaining to floroquinolones. In the sensitive organisms quinolones inhibit the action of DNA gyrase, the enzyme that catalyses DNA replication and mediates in secondary winding of a duplicated DNA. In very low levels it acts against bacteria and mycoplasma. Antimicrobial spectrum of Vetoflok<b><sup>®</sup></b> is very broad and includes major gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, mycoplasma and Chlamydia (<i>E</i>. <i>coli</i>, <i>Klebsiella</i> spp., <i>Salmonella</i> spp., <i>Proteus</i> spp., <i>Campylobacter</i> spp., <i>Pseudomonas</i> <i>aeruginosa</i>, <i>Bordetella</i> spp., <i>Pasteurella</i> spp., <i>Haemophilus spp.,</i> <i>Staphylococcus</i> spp., <i>Listeria monocytogenes</i>, <i>Corynebacterium</i> spp., <i>Erysipelothrix</i> <i>insidiosa</i> and <i>Clostridium</i> spp.). Post-antibiotic effect is maintained over 4-8 hours. In addition to antibacterial effect of enrofloxacin, there is also the same effect of its basic metabolite - ciprofloxacin. <b></b>

Resorption of orally taken Vetoflok<b><sup>®</sup></b> is rapid and complete. Its tissue levels are 2-3 times in excess of plasma-levels. Markedly high enrofloxacin concentration has been recorded in lungs, liver, kidneys, bones and lymphatic nodes. Pharmacodynamic of the preparation is quite different from the majority of to-date similar antibiotics. Vetoflok<b><sup>®</sup></b> is efficient against beta-lactam-, tetracycline-, macrolide-, aminoglycoside- and sulfonamide antibiotics, which is of great value in poultry and swine production.
